It’s official. Australia’s 401st Test cricketer is Beau Casson. He has been named in the 11, replacing Stuart MacGill. A real rarity has been averted – Australia playing two debutants in the one Test. It was common enough in the late seventies and eighties but I don’t know the last time we saw it. At any rate, we’ll need to wait to see who no 402 is. Brad Haddin is going to play on with his broken finger.
For those of you who don’t know, Casson is 25 years old and has played 40 first class matches. He’s managed just 107 wickets at just over 40 runs per wicket. It seems he is handy with the bat and has made six fifties with a top score of 99. He averages just under 25 with the bat. Now, if those averages were reversed, we have a player!
The 3rd Test starts on Thursday. So that the wee hours of Friday in Australia.
India (330) has flogged Pakistan by 140 runs in the sub-continental tri-series.
